Monday, November 24th, 2008

The HP Mini 1000 was set to get it’s 3G option in December but it would seem that HP surprised us by releasing it early. dplxy of Pocketables forum managed to get 3G up and running by contacting customer support from both HP and AT&T. All that needs to be be done is to get the hp driver from here unzip it with 7zip or winzip, double click swisetup to install, insert the sim and away you go.

HP Mini 1000 gets unboxed on video

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Notebooks.com has a video of the unboxing of the HP Mini 1000, might be worth a look if you aren’t getting one just yet;

From the article;

Instead of a manual, the HP Mini 1000 comes with a nice little poster with a picture of a Mini 1000 on one side and setup instructions printed on the other.

The AC adapter is very small and light, which should be expected on such a thin and light computer. The three-cell battery is a cinch to install and the vast majority of users won’t even need to red the instructions.

HP Mini 1120NR aka the linux version

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

EEE PC Blog has an interesting article about the Linux version of the Mini 1000, If you are waiting for the linux version you’ll have to wait a bit longer. The HP Mini 1120NR will not be shipping until January but good things come to those who wait as the starting price point of the 1120NR is said to be $379.99 not a great discount but it could be worse. One thing to bare in mind is that HP has put a lot into developing their “Mobile Internet Experience Software” coupled with the price breaks for Windows XP UMPC edition could explain the less than impressive price difference.

HP Mini 1000 compared to the MiniNote 2133

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Comparing The HP Mini 1000 to the HP 2133 is not really a great idea as they are both aimed at different ends of the market, but I do think that it is fair to mentions some of the areas that the mini 1000 has improved in. One example is the linux distro that the HP Mini 1120NR comes, I think that it’s fair to say the HP seem to have learned their lesson as they have provided an online software upgrade path with this new version of linux, which was absent from the SLED 10 Linux that came with the HP 2133. They Have also spent alot of time customising the Interface on the HP Mini 1120NR, it seems that HP has done something the many large companies fail to do, listen to the customers.

On the hardware side of things, They Have gone with an Atom processor which allows them to use Intel’s 945 graphic chipset. Many have welcomed this change, one thing that alot of people seem upset about is the fact that they have decided against an aluminium case but with the promise of a new revision of the HP 2133 in 2009, this really isn’t that much of an issue. Here are some comparision pictures for you;

HP Mini 1000 Netbook

HP Mini 1000

HP is getting ready to expand its Netbook line beyond the well-received Mini-Note 2133 — the company recently started teasing the Vivienne Tam Digital Clutch, and now images and pricing for a “Mini 1000″ have appeared on the HP shopping site. As expected, the new rig is basically a non-glam version of the Digital Clutch, and specs appear to be right in line with what we’ve seen: 10-inch screen, sub-1-inch thickness, and 2.25-pound starting weight — and we’re guessing the Mini 1000 also gets the upgrade to an Intel Atom over the 2133’s VIA C7-M. Not bad at all for a starting price tag of $399 — hopefully we’ll find out a lot more soon.

Rumors are that this is the cheaper, consumer-oriented model, but that there will also be a 2133 successor that’s more expensive but also keeps the aluminum casing.

HP Launch a New 10 inch MiniNote At Fasion Show

10 inch hp mininote

Laptop Mag has a story and pictures of a new mininote with a 10 inch screen, their isd still no word on the internal specs. I really hope that they ship this with the Nano that we Have been hearing / reading so much about. It’s the same form factor but the screen takes up the entire bezel, I would guess that it’s the same resolution but that is just a guess.

hpmininotepc.com is reporting his/her experiences with googles’ new chrome browser, here is an excerpt from the article;

I downloaded and ran it on my hp mini-note and was very impressed with the performance and the simplicity of the interface. On Google Chrome, I was happily browsing with 10 open tabs and no performance degradation.

The google chrome browser is not available for linux yet but you can get the windows download here;

Sorry I couldn’t post more but I could read the article myself as I only have access to IE6 (which crashes when trying to open that page).
